Physical Presence Calculator Relaunched on IRCC Portal With CBSA Integration

IRCC has launched a completely rebuilt Physical Presence Calculator on its official website, with a major new feature: direct integration with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) travel records for applicants who provide consent.

Previously, citizenship applicants had to manually calculate and enter every entry and exit date for the five years preceding their application — a cumbersome process prone to errors that could delay or jeopardize applications.

How the Integration Works

Applicants who consent to sharing their CBSA records will have their international travel history automatically populated in the calculator. The tool then calculates the number of days physically present in Canada over the relevant period.

To meet the citizenship requirement, applicants must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) within the five years before their application date.

Benefits for Applicants

The new system reduces calculation errors, speeds up application preparation, and provides immediate feedback on eligibility — including a projected eligible application date for those who are not yet eligible.

The calculator is available at canada.ca/citizenship-calculator.
